Tom Eslinger

Regional Director of Interactive, Saatchi & Saatchi NZ

Tom came to New Zealand after graduating with honours from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 1990 and for five years he developed and lectured in the interactive media, design and typography curriculum for Wanganui Polytechnic School of Design, now recognised internationally for interactive and graphic design education. Tom continues to be involved in NZ creative education and has developed New Zealand 's first interactive media internship programme at Saatchi & Saatchi. 12 students (the youngest was 14 years old) have worked with the interactive team in the past 3 years and two are full-time, heavily awarded creatives working in the New Zealand office.

Tom joined Saatchi & Saatchi in June 1998 as Creative Director of Interactive of Saatchi & Saatchi New Zealand. This was a newly established position and team within the agency. The challenge to the agency was to offer full-service integrated advertising to our clients.

The specific challenge to Tom and his team was to bring a world-class interactive component to our campaigns. The result is reflected in the interactive awards that continue to stack up.

With Saatchi & Saatchi, Tom has worked on the creative and strategic executions of brands including adidas International, Telecom New Zealand, Westpac, New Zealand Rugby Union, eVentures, Office of the Retirement Commission, City Gallery, New Zealand Army, xtra, Boost Mobile, Whittakers, Lotteries Commission, Contact Energy and Toyota.

Tom's typographical and interactive work has been awarded by Axis (NZ), AWARD (AUS), Effie Awards, London International Festivals, Clio, New York Festivals, Type Directors Club, One Show, D&AD and the Cannes International Advertising Awards.

Tom has also served on awards juries in Australasia , USA and Europe including AWARD (AUS), Axis (NZ), One Show (USA) and Cannes International Advertising Awards. In July 2004, Tom was appointed to the Worldwide Creative Board of Saatchi & Saatchi, representing interactive/new media for the global network. Tom is also a member of the Worldwide Design Group.

Tom develops original typefaces for his Beastypes digital foundry and has contributed to Ray Gun magazine ( USA ) and campaigns for New Zealand Dairy Foods, Burger King, New Line Pictures, Sony, Levis , Urban Outfitters and Swatch.
